Shield Eternal

"Wait...is that right?!" Why not ask? This is the place to share a rules question (or revelation) you learned at the table.

Shield Eternal

Postby The Last Acton Hero » Wed Oct 17, 2018 11:52 am

This relic grants the bearer a 3+ invulnerable save, and any damage they suffer is halved (rounding up).

Say a captain with the shield fails 8 saves against attacks from a single unit that cause 1 damage each. Do you halve the total damage of 8 from the unit for 4 damage, or do you halve each attack (which doesn't do anything since 1 rounds up to 1), and take the full 8?

Basically what I'm saying is do you take all the damage you suffer from all attacks from a unit, add it up and then divide by 2, or divide each individual attack by 2.

You take the full 8. I believe that rule applies to damage profiles (1, 2, 3, D3 etc) so you couldn't halve 1 flat damage to anything lower

You divide each individual attack by 2. so you would take the full 8 damage.

As Kenji and Spencer have said. I believe it is consistent with the wording for other, similar abilities such as Marneus Calgar's Armour of Antilochus:

Marneus Calgar has a 4+ invulnerable save. In addition, all damage suffered by Marneus Calgar is halved (rounding up).
“Fairy tales do not give the child his first idea of bogey. What fairy tales give the child is his first clear idea of the possible defeat of bogey. The baby has known the dragon intimately ever since he had an imagination. What the fairy tale provides for him is a St. George to kill the dragon.”
